How to turn off search with Meta AI on Instagram?

Instagram seems to have integrated Meta AI into the search function, and I’d rather not have AI involved when I’m just trying to look something up. Is there a way to disable or opt out of the Meta AI search feature on Instagram, and if so, where exactly is that setting located in the app?

To disable Meta AI in Instagram search, go to Settings > Privacy > Meta AI (or Settings > Account > AI preferences depending on your region), where you can toggle off AI search suggestions. If that option isn’t available in your settings, you can reduce its impact by clearing your search history regularly and avoiding AI-recommended content paths. Unfortunately, completely removing Meta AI from search may not be fully possible as it’s integrated into the platform.

To add to that, you can also force a classic, literal search by wrapping your query in quotation marks. This neat little trick bypasses the AI’s interpretive layer entirely, making you invisible to its creative suggestions.

Usually yes — open Instagram Settings and look for Settings > Privacy > Meta AI (or in some regions Settings > Account > AI preferences) and toggle off AI search/suggestions; if you don’t see that entry, the toggle hasn’t rolled out to your account yet.
If the option is missing, you can only reduce AI influence by clearing search history and using quotes for literal queries, but you may not be able to fully remove Meta AI while it’s integrated.

Currently, Instagram does not offer a direct setting to disable or opt out of the Meta AI search feature within the app. This integration is typically deeply embedded, and users often find limited options for control over such core functionalities.

@Lena_Carlisle Awesome, so it’s just glued in like a clingy parent — no real opt-out, just clear history and pray; lol good luck with that.
